What Do Bicycle Industry Professionals Actually Earn in 2026?A salary benchmark built on real conversations — not surveys.

If you're a company trying to fill a leadership role in the bicycle industry, you're dealing with a real information problem. Reliable salary data for the sector barely exists. Generic job portals mix bicycle OEM roles with unrelated outdoor retail positions — which helps no one when it comes to budget planning or negotiating with a strong candidate.

That's the problem we set out to solve.

How the benchmark was built

The foundation is real conversations. With candidates, hiring managers, and clients I've worked with over the past several years. No anonymous surveys, no crowdsourcing. Supplemented by current job postings on velobiz.de, LinkedIn, and industry media. All figures represent gross annual salary excluding variable compensation, as of June 2026.

A special thanks to Dr. Robert Peschke

For the bicycle retail section, I worked with Dr. Robert Peschke, managing Partner of Little John Bikes — with 67 stores across Germany, the largest specialty bicycle retail network in the country.

Robert was open and cooperative from the very beginning. He shared insights that simply aren't available anywhere else: real salary data from day-to-day operations, broken down by role and experience level. Without his willingness to contribute, the retail section of this study wouldn't have been possible.

I'm genuinely grateful for that — and I believe this kind of open collaboration benefits the entire industry.

What the benchmark covers

The study covers more than 12 positions across functional areas:

From the industry side: CEO/CSO/COO, Head of OEM Sales, OEM Sales Director, Senior Key Account OEM, Key Account OEM, Sales Director Outdoor/Bike, Sales Representatives and KAMs across various regions, Head of Purchasing OEM, Purchasing Manager, Category Manager, Senior Product Manager, Junior Product Manager.

From the retail side (data: Little John Bikes): Store Manager, Deputy Store Manager, Workshop Manager/Master Technician, Senior and Junior Bicycle Mechatronics Technician, Senior and Junior Sales Advisor, Apprenticeship compensation.

All salary ranges, 2026 forecasts and the full market assessment are available in the blog at www.sentinel-sports.eu/blog.

What genuinely surprised me in the analysis

E-bike expertise pays — more than most people expect.

Professionals with real systems knowledge — Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha, Gobao, Avinox — consistently sit at the upper end of their salary bracket. That holds true from the experienced sales advisor on the shop floor to the OEM Sales Director. Technical expertise in this space has become the rule for above-average compensation, not the exception.

The candidate market is more complicated than it looks.

Yes, qualified profiles have become available again after the restructuring waves of 2023 to 2025. But anyone who thinks the market has relaxed is missing something important.

Part of what happened goes deeper than a typical market correction. After the post-COVID boom, dealers and manufacturers were sitting on massive inventory. For many, the way out ran through distressed stock — goods sold below cost, which provided short-term liquidity but caused lasting damage to the market. The resulting price war destroyed margins that were never generous to begin with. And when margins disappear, so does the budget for people.

The companies that let people go during that period mostly didn't do so lightly. They were simply in a position where there was no other way forward.

But that doesn't change what landed with the people affected. A seasoned professional who watched a market undermine itself over two years — and still lost their job — thinks very carefully before taking that risk again. Some decided: not in this industry anymore.

Those who are now available or considering a move carry that experience with them. They're more selective. Not arrogant — just wiser.

The full package matters more than the base salary alone.

Remote work flexibility, company car, performance bonus, and genuine responsibility are often the deciding factors for experienced profiles. Countering with an extra €3,000 in base salary no longer automatically wins the conversation.

What this means for your company

If you want to fill a key position in the bicycle industry in 2026, you need a realistic compensation package, an attractive working environment — and access to candidates who aren't actively on the market. The truly strong profiles aren't looking. They need to be approached, with the right background knowledge and at the right moment.

That's exactly what we do at Sentinel Sports.
